How long have you been working at Mon Motors?
I’ve been with Mon Motors for just over a decade now. I started back in 2014 as a standard Vehicle Technician, and over the years I’ve gradually progressed to become a Senior Technician. It’s been a great journey with lots of learning along the way.
I’ve had the opportunity to grow not just in my technical ability but also in terms of leadership-mentoring younger team members and taking more responsibility in the workshop. Looking back, I’m proud of how far I’ve come and grateful for the support I’ve had throughout my time here.
What first attracted you to Mon Motors?
I’d heard of Mon Motors through a few people I knew in the trade. It had a strong reputation as a family-run business that really looks after its staff. That stood out to me, especially in an industry where some places can feel a bit impersonal.
When I came for my interview at the Bath branch, I was struck by how professional and welcoming everyone was. It was clear that training and development were taken seriously here, and I saw straight away that there was room to grow. That sense of long-term opportunity and being part of a team that genuinely cares about what they do was what really sold it to me.
What does a typical day look like for you?
There’s no such thing as a completely typical day, which is part of the appeal for me. Most mornings start with a team briefing where we go through the day’s jobs, any customer requests, or updates from Volkswagen. Then I’ll usually dive into a mix of tasks—anything from diagnostics and fault-finding to servicing and MOT prep.
As a Senior Tech, I also spend a fair bit of time supporting our apprentices and junior techs, helping them get to grips with the more technical parts of the job. The variety keeps me on my toes, and I really enjoy the challenge. It’s satisfying to see a complex issue through from start to finish, especially when you know you’ve helped get someone back on the road safely.
What's the team like at Volkswagen Bath?
We’ve built a really solid team here. Everyone is approachable, skilled at what they do, and there’s a good balance of experience and fresh energy. We all support each other, whether it’s jumping in on a tricky job or just sharing a laugh during a tea break.
The management are easy to talk to and really take the time to check in with us, which makes a difference. It feels more like a close-knit group than just a workplace. That kind of atmosphere helps a lot when things get busy—you know you’re not on your own.
Have you had any training or development opportunities since joining?
Absolutely, and that’s one of the things I really appreciate about working here. I’ve been sent on several manufacturer-accredited training courses through Volkswagen, covering everything from hybrid and electric vehicle systems to advanced diagnostics.
These sessions are top quality and keep us at the cutting edge of automotive tech. Beyond the formal training, there’s also loads of opportunity for peer learning—we’re always bouncing ideas around and learning from each other in the workshop. Plus, being in a senior role now, I’ve developed a lot on the leadership side, especially when it comes to mentoring and supporting apprentices.
