What is a Volkswagen van MOT test?
An MOT is a legally required test that has to be carried out in the UK on all vehicles older than three years. If the vehicle passes, it’s deemed safe enough to be on the roads until the same time the following year.
Alternatively, if a vehicle fails an MOT test, it’s considered unroadworthy. Often, the report will recommend specific repairs that need to be carried out if the vehicle is to become safe to drive again. These can be carried out at Mon Motors by our Volkswagen-approved technicians and the vehicle can be retested for free (providing it’s done within 10 working days of the failed test).
MOTS are different from Volkswagen van services. While MOT tests are required once a year by law for vehicles more than three years old, VW van services aren’t required by law — however, they’re recommended if you want to keep your van in good running order. It’s possible to book a VW MOT and service at the same time.
What does a Volkswagen van MOT test include?
At Mon Motors, our Volkswagen-approved technicians can carry out standard MOT tests — this will check various aspects of the vehicle, including the brakes, tyres, headlights, windscreen wipers and seatbelts.
At the end of the MOT test, a vehicle will either receive a pass or a fail. If the vehicle passes, it’s safe to be driven away — however, there still might be ‘minor’ or ‘advisory’ problems on the report, which will need to be monitored and potentially fixed in the future.
If a vehicle fails an MOT test, the report will state the ‘major’ or ‘dangerous’ faults that led to this verdict. Very often, these will be simple repairs that can be carried out at our VW dealerships.
Drivers aren’t obligated to get the necessary repairs completed at the same place where the vehicle was tested. However, there are good reasons to get them completed at Mon Motors. Not only are repairs done by Volkswagen-approved technicians, but we also only use genuine VW parts and offer a two-year warranty on these. What’s more, there are 0% finance options available if you’d like to spread the costs of repairs, services and maintenance.
How to prepare for a VW van’s MOT booking
Once you’ve found a Mon Motors’ VW dealership and booked a slot, there are a few checks that drivers can make before an MOT test to give the vehicle the best chance of passing. These include:

Checking there’s sufficient tread (over 1.6mm) on all tyres

Ensuring windscreen wipers, headlamps, and signals are working
