An MOT test is required by UK law once a year for cars older than three years. It’s designed to ensure that your Škoda car complies with the government’s minimum safety and environmental standards — if your car passes, it’s safe to drive on UK roads for the next year.
An MOT test is different from a Škoda service, which is not legally required but is a good habit for keeping your Škoda in the best shape possible. At Mon Motors, you can book a Škoda MOT and service at the same time.
What does a Škoda MOT test include?
During your Škoda MOT test, our team of Škoda-trained technicians follows a set checklist and inspects various aspects of the vehicle, including the brakes, gears, tyres and headlights.
They will use their findings to decide whether a car passes or fails. If the Škoda car passes, it’s deemed safe to be on the road for the next year. You will be given a VT20 test certificate, which you should keep safe — this will include the date when the vehicle needs to be tested again.
Even if a vehicle passes an MOT test, the certificate might still raise ‘minor’ or ‘advisory’ issues. These are issues that aren’t serious enough to lead to a failure, but still need to be monitored and potentially repaired to prevent future failures.
If a vehicle fails an MOT test, the certificate will list the ‘major’ or ‘dangerous’ faults that led to this verdict. Very often, these will be simple repairs that can be carried out at our Škoda dealerships by our team of Škoda-approved technicians. We only use genuine Škoda parts during our repairs and these have a two-year warranty, too.
Once the faults have been addressed, the vehicle can be retested at Mon Motors for free, provided this is done within 10 working days.

Once you’ve booked your MOT test with Mon Motors Škoda, there are a few checks that you can complete before the test to give your car the best chance of passing. These include:

Checking there’s sufficient tread (over 1.6mm) on all tyres
