Book your MOT with Mon Motors
Book your MOT with Mon Motors, and know your vehicle is in safe hands. Our manufacturer-trained Technicians are here to look after your car or van, giving it the intensive inspection it requires to pass its MOT and meet road safety and environmental standards.
If the MOT identifies any issues that need repairs in order to pass the test, we’ll tell you first so you can authorise the work. Any parts used in the repairs will be genuine manufacturer parts that come complete with a two-year parts and labour warranty (Ford offer 1-6 years warranty depending on the part fitted).
To help with any repairs that may be needed to pass the MOT, we are pleased to offer 0% APR finance on all work over £60 up to £5,000. This allows you to spread the cost over up to nine months‡, making it more affordable to keep your car in a safe and roadworthy condition.

How to prepare your car or van for its MOT
Some simple preparation can ensure your vehicle is in the best possible shape leading up to the MOT, enhancing its likelihood of passing the test.
Many areas that lead to a potential fault can be identified before the MOT – take the time to check some key components and you could reduce the risk of a fail due to something that’s reasonably minor; frustrating. Vehicle checks you can carry out at home include:
- Checking fluid levels in your vehicle and topping up oil, coolant and windscreen washer fluid if necessary
- Inspecting tyres, looking for signs of wear and tear and checking tread depth – you could get a tyre replaced ahead of the MOT if you suspect it may fail
- Keep registration plates clean; dirt can obscure the digits which could result in a fail
- Test the vehicle’s horn
- Make sure all the seatbelts in the vehicle work correctly
If you identify any areas on your vehicle that you think could lead to failing its MOT, it’s better to get these repaired before the test to save time and the process of later repairs and then a re-test.
Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about MOTs
My MOT test is due, what do I do?
When your MOT test is due, the first step is to book an appointment with one of our service locations. It’s important to schedule your test before the current MOT expires to avoid any legal issues or fines.
Before the test, we recommend giving your vehicle a quick check to ensure lights, tyres, brakes, and other essential parts are in good condition. If any issues are found during the MOT, our Technicians can advise you on necessary repairs to help your vehicle pass. Feel free to contact us to schedule your MOT test or for any questions about the process.
Can I book my MOT with Mon Motors?
Yes, you can book your MOT at one of our Service Centres. Your vehicle’s MOT could be included in a service plan, if you have bought one, but can also be booked separately.
The standard MOT fee of £54.85 applies – it won’t cost you more to have your MOT carried out by our expert Technicians than anywhere else.
What does an MOT check include?
An MOT is an extensive examination of a vehicle, though the test doesn’t look at the condition of your gearbox, engine or clutch. What is covered in an MOT includes checks on:
- Mirrors
- Tyres and wheels
- Seats and seat belts
- Brakes
- Steering wheel
- Doors
- Horn
- Lights - internal and external
- Registration plates
- Wiper blades
- Exhaust systems
- Suspension
- Fuel tank
The body and structure of a vehicle will be checked to ensure there’s no excessive corrosion. Exhaust emissions will also be tested.
The MOT takes around 1 hour to complete, with additional work required for any repairs in the event of a failure. At the conclusion of the MOT, your vehicle may pass but have some ‘advisories’. These are parts of the vehicle that need to be monitored by you in the coming weeks and months, and may need replacing – such as tyres showing signs of wear but not below the legal limit.
Any major faults will result in MOT failure. The vehicle can’t be driven until the necessary repairs have been completed.
How much does an MOT cost?
MOT costs can vary, but there is a maximum amount that test stations can charge. This depends on the type of vehicle being tested.
For cars with up to eight passenger seats, the maximum MOT fee is £54.85. Small vans, like cars, are categorised as Class 4 vehicles and also have a maximum MOT fee of £54.85. Larger goods vehicles – over 3,000kg – have an MOT fee of £58.60 so some bigger vans may fall into this class.
Can I drive my vehicle if it fails its MOT?
There are strict rules around this. If your vehicle fails its MOT with a ‘major’ or ‘dangerous’ problem, you can’t drive it under any circumstances until the issues are repaired. Driving a vehicle that’s failed its MOT due to a fault classed as ‘dangerous’ risks a driving ban, three penalty points and a £2,500 fine.
If your vehicle has failed due to a minor issue but the existing MOT is still valid and hasn’t expired - you might have booked the test a few weeks early - you can still drive it. But, when the MOT expires you can only drive the vehicle directly to a garage for repairs and a re-test.
The bottom line is that if your car or van fails its MOT, you should get the repairs completed immediately or as quickly as possible.
